Killarney Provincial Park
Killarney Provincial Park holds a special place in my heart. In my early 20s, I spent just over a year working and living there. Its unique beauty and rich history captivated me, and I hoped to spend more time there. I looked for work in the region and was fortunate to find work with The Friends of Killarney Park, a charitable organization that operates within the park itself.
At the end of my contract, I was even more lucky to be offered a summer position with Ontario Parks as the Park Ambassador, sharing my love for the area with visitors across Ontario and Canada. The park’s rugged, pink granite landscapes, iconic white quartzite hills, and crystal-clear lakes made it so hard to leave, and I still dream of that stunning place. It’s no wonder how Killarney inspired members of the Group of Seven, such as A.Y. Jackson, Arthur Lismer, and Frank Carmichael, whose paintings later helped secure the park’s protection in the 1960s. Whether paddling through the calm waters of OSA Lake or hiking its scenic trails, I always feel connected to the artistic and natural heritage that makes this place unique.
